Indigenous Student STEM Access Program

The Indigenous Student STEM Access Program (ISSAP) provides an alternative pathway for Indigenous students, including First Nation (Status and Non-Status), Métis, and Inuit, to pursue either an Engineering or Science program at Western University.
ISSAP is designed as a supportive, preliminary year that helps students successfully transition from high school to university. During this time, students become familiar with university learning environments, such as lectures, labs and coursework, while completing the required prerequisite courses (equivalent to Grades 11 and 12) for their intended program.
Students in ISSAP receive personalized academic and holistic support. An assigned Academic Advisor, along with a dedicated university success team, works closely with each student to build a pathway that reflects their goals, strengths and needs, ensuring they are well-prepared for future studies.
Upon successful completion of ISSAP with a minimum cumulative average of 75%, students are eligible to transition directly into first-year Engineering or Science programs at Western.
Program Admission
Admission to ISSAP is limited to a small cohort each year, allowing for a highly supportive and personalized experience.
Students who are accepted into the program and complete the Indigenous membership/citizenship affirmation process will receive a $5,000 entrance scholarship to support their first year. All ages are welcome to apply.
As part of the application process, you will meet with an advisor to learn more about ISSAP and explore whether the program is the right fit for your goals.
