Indigenous Student Graduation Ceremony

indigenous graduation stoles in grey, gold, and white

Western’s Indigenous Student Graduation Ceremony takes place each year in early April or late March. If you expect to graduate in 2027 or late 2026. Please complete the save-the-date form. We will invite you to register once the registration form is available for 2027.

All Indigenous students registered at Western or one of our Affiliated University College’s (Huron or King’s) are welcome to participate. Families are encouraged to attend and support their graduates.

About the Ceremony

During the ceremony we honour and celebrate our Indigenous student graduates’ accomplishments. Graduates are gifted with a Western Indigenous stole.

Indigenous Graduation Stoles

For students, the stoles are a visual symbol of pride in their Indigenous heritage and can also be worn during Western Convocation ceremonies in June, or October.

  • White stole - to acknowledge the completion of an undergraduate degree
  • Silver stole - for a Master’s degree
  • Bronze stole - for Doctor of Medicine, Juris Doctor (Law) or Doctor of Dental Surgery
  • Gold stole - for a Doctorate degree

Attending:
For students attending the Indigenous graduation, we gift the appropriate stole during the ceremony.

Not Attending:
For those not attending the ceremony, you may pick up a stole at the ISC or we will mail it to you by request. Request a stole by sending an email to akewayos@uwo.ca.
