Indigenous Youth Track and Field Day
For the last 20 years, Western's Indigenous Student Centre has partnered with Western Mustangs Varsity Track and Field athletes to host the annual Indigenous Youth Track and Field Day. This one-day event welcomes Indigenous students in Grades 7-8 from elementary schools across Southwestern Ontario to Western’s campus for a day of learning, movement, and connection.
Through hands-on instruction led by Western Mustangs varsity athletes, participants are introduced to basic track and field skills while experiencing the spirit of a university varsity team. The day also highlights the importance of active lifestyles, teamwork, and positive school spirit.
On average, over 100 Indigenous youth participate in Track and Field Day each year.

For hundreds of Indigenous youth, a Western outreach program has offered an atmosphere of mentorship and encouragment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Track and Field Day will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
Our program is offered to Indigenous youth in grades 7-8, unless special considerations apply.
The event takes place on Western University’s campus at the Thompson Recreation and Athletic Centre.

To register a school or individual participant, please email isc.track@uwo.ca to request a registration package.
Each participant will receive a free Western t-shirt and water bottle. Lunch & refreshments are provided throughout the day.
