Indigenous Academic Tutor Coordinator

Joel Persaud

Sa-wo-ka-kowa-bo-teh mayaukua h-a bú d-ierie Jyekhwaa’. Kwe’ / Hello! My name is Joel, and I am Arawak-Lokono Amerindian and Epekwitnewaq Mi’kmaq. My ancestral roots connect me to regions surrounding the Essequibo River which border Guyana and Brazil in the South American Amazon, alongside Lennox Island First Nation located in Prince Edward Island’s Malpeque Bay.

I graduated with a BSc from Western, and I am a student-researcher at Western’s Schulich School of Medicine. I am extremely proud to hold the role of Indigenous Academic Tutor Coordinator at ISC – working to help advance the academic prosperity and future potential of Indigenous youth is an immeasurable passion I hold. My email is always open to help/support in any way I can, so please feel free to reach out. Wela’lin!
