Hello! My Michif name is Awâsis, my English name is Cortney. I am mixed Ukrainian and Métis from French River, with family ties to the Red River and Ottawa River Valleys. I am a PhD Candidate in the Department of Geography and Environment, and a Lecturer in the Department of Social Justice and Peace Studies at King’s University College. I am interested in Indigenous geographies, political ecology, and energy justice. I enjoy gardening, fishing, canoeing, and hiking with my dogs. In my role as SAGE (Supporting Aboriginal Graduate Engagement) Coordinator, I look forward to connecting with other Indigenous graduate students and coming together in a supportive and welcoming way that is led by your input and interests.
