Since the release of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC 2015), Canadian universities have increased their Indigenous curriculum supports and professional training efforts to educate university members about Indigenous Peoples.
Western’s newly appointed Indigenous Curriculum and Pedagogy Advisor is available to support faculty and staff in Indigenizing and decolonizing their curriculum. Working together through an Indigenous decolonial lens, the Advisor will support the inclusion of Indigenous perspectives, pedagogies, and ways of knowing into curriculum across disciplines.
- Advise in the development of new Indigenous courses and review of existing courses
- Advise and participate in curriculum review processes
- Support in developing Indigenous-related learning outcomes
- Help identify appropriate Indigenous content and scholarship
- Prepare faculty and staff in building reciprocal relationships with Indigenous communities (e.g. community engaged learning, etc.)
- Identify pedagogical strategies
- Identify culturally-appropriate assessment approaches
- Support faculty and staff in working respectfully with Indigenous students
